Bloomberg to Give Arts Achievement Awards to Sondheim, Baryshnikov, Lin

On Tuesday night, Mayor Bloomberg will hand out the 2011 Mayor's Awards for Arts and Culture at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall.

Composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim will receive the Handel Medallion, the city's highest award for achievement in the arts.

The other five individuals receiving Mayor's Awards for outstanding contributions to cultural life in New York City are dancer and artistic director for the Baryshnikov Arts Center Mikhail Baryshnikov, artist and architect Maya Lin, arts advocate Alice Diamond, musician and educator Jimmy Heath and P.S. MO94 Principal Ronnie Shuster.

The Theatre Development Fund will also get a Mayor's Award.

Alec Baldwin will present the awards with Mayor Bloomberg. Live performances by arts organizations and guests will accompany the ceremony.
