In any severe weather coverage, there's the requisite shots of weather-be-damned outdoors enthusiasts. Despite being in the direct path of the hurricane, surfers on Long Island's Long Beach draw the attention of the media.

Some media outlets have been reporting that some of the surfers are pros in town for next week's $1mil surf contest, getting in practice. I'm not sure that being a pro surfer makes you that much more capable of battling storm surge or rip tide, but it does make for better b-reel for the news stations.
