Video: Anna and the Independents - Campaigns Edition

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

All August, It's A Free Country's Anna Sale is searching for America's Independent voters. They helped decide the 2008 and 2010 elections, and they'll be courted heavily come 2012. But who are they, exactly?

In this video, Anna explains how President Obama is losing support among independents, and there’s a mad dash among political organizers to grab them as they peel off.

As a former Republican who became an independent following the arrogance and excesses of the George W. Bush first presidential term, I now realize that neither major political party really cares about the future of this country. Democrats such as Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Maxine Waters and Timothy Geithner have all contirbuted to the current financial crisis while continuing to benefit and prosper at the expense of the taxpayers. Both major parties are equally responsible for the serious problems we face while no independent party or candidate has surfaced that is able to take them on. Obama promised "hope and change" but there is little of either so far. He squandered the great swell of support and enthusiasm he received in 2008 by mis-directing the bulk of his first year and a half in office on a divisive health care plan no one understands. Instead, he should have gone after the Wall Street thieves who engineered the financial collapse and then received taxpayer "bail out" money as a reward for their criminal behavior. That may have set a tone of accountability and responsibility which is so sadly lacking. Favoritism and cronyism pervades our society caused by the ever growing separation of the "haves" and "have nots." The Republicans do everything possible to enhance the incomes of the corporations and wealthy individuals while the Democrats pander to every interest group that will support their re-elections. This country needs strong, fearless leadership that will face our problems with honesty and integrity. Until then, we'll just continue with the stupidity, rigidity and dishonesty we've experienced to date.
