What Made Your Year?

Thursday, December 03, 2009

Only 28 days left in 2009. Tell us what made your year. Name the best food, song, movie, book, show or cultural experience you had. We're reading your choices on WNYC this month.

Cassim Shepard of the urban design and architecture site, Urban Omnibus, had this choice: ""Determined to see what all the fuss was about, and to redress my woeful ignorance of that other island, I hopped in a Zipcar early last summer and drove myself and an another intrepid urban explorer friend all the way to Rossville, Staten Island to check out the mythical tugboat graveyard. While access to the privately owned marine scrapyard is limited, obscured glimpses from the road and the hill above reminded me why I love exploring this city: it always finds ways to remind you of its past. Which sometimes – though not always – includes hulks of obsolete watercrafts slowly decomposing in Arthur Kill. The bellyful of sublime Sri Lankan food from Victory Boulevard also helped make this a day to remember."
