Guitar Duos and Trios

« previous episode | next episode »

Monday, July 25, 2011

Guitar duos and trios are what we’ll hear on this New Sounds program. There’s music from an old LP featuring the duo of guitarist Nels Cline, playing acoustic, along with the late bassist Eric von Essen. Also, there’s music from the Rosetta trio led by bass player Stephan Crump, on a recording called Reclamation, which partners double bass with both acoustic and electric guitar.

Rounding out the show are more guitar duos, well – actually Hardanger fiddle and guitar in Trollstilt, and then a new take on J.S. Bach’s Cello Suite, arranged for fiddle and guitar. And more.

Gato Loco

How Low Can You Go? (Special Podcast)

We'll explore the deep tones of bands like Gato Loco whose lead instruments are the bass clarinet and the tuba on this New Sounds program.  There's even more from the tuba with music by Tom Heasley and some bass clarinet work by Marty Erlich.  We'll also hear the jazzy extensions of the bass saxophone in the works of the Maikotron Unit.

I was browsing the archives of Newssounds & wanted to hear Program # 3067--Guitar Duos and trios. There does not appear a link to listen to the program, only a link to comment on it. I do not receive "Newsounds" on my local NPR affiliate radio station. How can I listen to this particular edition of the program?

Thanks for the archives access.
