More than 11,000 reservations for the September 11 Memorial were booked online within the first hours after the ticket website went live Monday morning.

The memorial plaza at the site of the World Trade Center opens Sept. 12, the day after the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks. Reservations are required to enter the site until construction in the area is completed.

In the first hour, 5,000 tickets were booked.

Special reservations for families who lost members on September 11, 2001, are available. Those families will have access to a private room near the reflecting pool.

All tickets are free, but reservations are required.
