Pulled Pork and Musical Saws: Food and Music Festival Takes Over Times Square

There's no reason to go hungry in Times Square this Monday. Thirty-five area restaurants are setting up shop on the pedestrian malls along Broadway from 42nd to 47th Street as part of the "Taste Of Times Square Food and Music Festival," now in its 18th year. The festival features recognizable music buskers with bite-sized street eats, priced between $1 and $5.
On Monday afternoon at R Lounge, located at Two Times Square, chef Jason Potter was busy in the kitchen preparing 2,000 pulled pork sliders for the festival.
“We've got 375 pounds of pork that we've marinated for two days and then we've slow roasted in the oven,” said Potter. “Then we have 16 gallons of BBQ sauce that we've made from scratch.”
Potter’s pork sliders are being paired with a tomato-watermelon-goat cheese salad.
“I didn’t mention 200 pounds of watermelon that we’ve diced,” he said.
A few blocks away at Gallagher’s Steak House on 52nd St., fresh, homemade potato chips sat waiting in bins as 400 pounds of steak were being stuffed into sandwiches.
“We’ve been working on these non-stop since yesterday morning,” said chef Miguel Angel Romero.
Festivalgoers can buy $1 taste tickets from 3 to 9 P.M. Performers include a mariachi group, a musical saw player, and a bluegrass band.
