Giants Star Plaxico Burress Released From Prison

Monday, June 06, 2011

Ex-New York Giants star and Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress was released from prison Monday after nearly two years behind bars for a gun charge.

Burress, former wide receiver for Big Blue, pleaded guilty in August 2009 to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and was sentenced to two years in an upstate New York prison.

The NFLer faced charges after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in a Manhattan nightclub in November 2008 after a gun he had tucked into the waist of his pants slipped down and fired.

The embattled athlete will travel to his home in Florida, spend time with his family and will work out, his lawyer said. His future in the NFL remains unclear, but his lawyer said he hopes to play again.
