Shoe Shopping With Artist Kate Gilmore

Wednesday, February 24, 2010 - 06:58 PM

Kate Gilmore's video performances demand physically challenging tasks: head-butting, kicking and punching through sheetrock in heels and a polka-dot dress.

In Standing Here, she explores these issues of displacement and overcoming self-imposed struggles as a modern woman.

And like most modern women, conquering the hunt for shoes is high on the to-do list. Along with a crew from the Whitney, she shops for a pair to withstand her routine at the Biennial.
