Accepting the notion that "Greed breeds irrationality" then this idea describes the debacle on Wall Street, in general and the Wilpon's behavior, in particular. Trying to ascribe rationality to Wilpon's behavior in the extended frenzy that existed in the investment community is like asking why an engorged child in a candy store still grasps at that lollipop.
