Jury Begins Deliberations in NYPD Rape Trial

After seven weeks of emotional and graphic testimony and three days of closing arguments, jury deliberations in the rape trial of two NYPD officers was underway on Wednesday.

The officers involved, Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata, are facing charges of rape, burglary, official misconduct and other charges after helping a drunk women into her East Village apartment one night in December 2008.

Prosecutors allege the woman was unconscious and woke up to Moreno raping her as Mata stood guard as the lookout.

During the trial, Moreno said the woman invited him into her bed and that he only cuddled in her bed, but did not have sex. Mata said he was asleep on the couch.
