The Chernobyl Disaster

Thursday, April 28, 2011

To mark this week's 25th anniversary of the disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Radio Rookies is rebroadcasting Irina Sverzhanovskaya's story about the aftermath of the accident in her own life.

Irina was born in Belarus, the country that bore the brunt of the radiation fallout and her family moved to the Bronx to escape the contamination. For years she and her family have attributed many of their health problems to the radiation, but as Irina digs deeper she finds that is not the case.  (ORIGINAL AIR DATE: October 7, 2009)
