John Waters, cult film director and the author of Role Models, talks about some of his favorite outsiders and what we should learn from them.
John Waters will be reading tonight at 7 pm at the Paula Cooper Gallery.

re: John Waters, not being a believer in karma. I'm sure we all know good people whom we would have liked to see live longer and others whom we think have been or will be around too long, but neither of these prove or disprove karma any more than they prove or disprove the existence of a God, of fate or any other supreme controlling force.
Sandra Lerner cofounded Cisco Systems (also co-invented the first router), then later went on to found Urban Decay Cosmetics. She's definitely among my role models.
john waters is a tastemaker and national treasure! his influence and contributions to our culture should never be underestimated.
A very funny man!
This week it was great to see the mother and grandmother of Baltimore area McDonald's beating victim, Chrissy Lee Polis, speak up to defend their trans-daughter. They claim to have always been accepting of their transgender child. Those mothers are my role models for 2011!
Earring-phones...notorious for their pursuit of the ultimate life-mate; one could assist in their goal of self-actualization and happiness.
National treasure. A wise compulsive truth teller in a world of lying errand boys of all genders.
Right about Baltimore -- insanity thinking it's normal. He should do a film about NYPD, Michael Bloomberg, his mini-me Christine Quinn, and the media who don't so much cover them as cover **for** them.
I am a HUGE Waters fan; please thank him for all his great work and staying true to his vision. Also - how about a John Waters collaboration starring Amy Sedaris?
"Cult leader" (as opposed to "cult filmmaker") would also allow one to live tax-free, like the Duggars!
Tattoo removal will be big, but also any product that removes the driving glove effects of tanning beds.
