Bloomberg: Cathie Black Is 'Phenomenally Competent'

Friday, April 08, 2011

Mayor Michael Bloomberg defended outgoing Schools Chancellor Cathie Black a day after he announced she would be leaving the post after only three months.

Appearing on his weekly WOR radio show, Bloomberg said on Friday that Black was "a phenomenally competent woman."

Bloomberg announced Thursday that the two agreed Black, a former publishing exec who faced 17 percent approval ratings, should step down. Black faced criticism for her lack of education experience despite the mayor's claims that her work in the private sector qualified her for the position.
