Search Resumes for Bodies in Possible Serial Killer Slayings

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

Police returned to the remote stretch of beach highway in Long Island on Wednesday where eight bodies were found in recent months to scour the area for additional victims of a suspected serial killer.

About a dozen police cadets were among those searching the area near Oak Beach, Long Island, about 45 miles from New York City.

The body of Shannan Gilbert, the missing New Jersey escort who prompted the search, was not among the eight bodies found. Four prostitutes were found along the highway in December, and a fifth was discovered last week. On Monday, three more corpses were found, but police have yet to identify the victims.
