Man Suspected in Bronx Apartment Blaze Dies After Wife, Baby

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

A man allegedly stabbed his wife, before killing himself and their daughter then intentionally setting his Bronx apartment on fire to cover up the crime, police said.

Vincente Cordero, 34, had been critically injured in the blaze before dying at Westchester County Medical Center. His wife, Kety Sanchez, and their 1-year-old girl, Keiry, were found dead in a bedroom. Sanchez was found with stab wounds to her torso. The baby was face down in her crib with no visible injuries.

The fire started just before 8 a.m. in a fifth-floor bedroom and spread to the living room of the Fordham Heights apartment. Firefighters arrived on the scene in three minutes. The fire department said it had the fire under control 40 minutes later.

Police are investigating whether the fire was set to conceal the murder.

Three neighbors were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
