Anyone who listened to pop rock radio in the 1980s is probably more than familiar with Huey Lewis and the News. Fronted by singer and blues harp player Huey Lewis, the band rose out of the San Francisco funk scene to international fame with 19 chart-topping hits over the '80s and '90s, including “The Power of Love,” which was featured prominently in the first "Back to the Future" movie. It was a particular kind of over-produced, synth-heavy '80s pop that some critics argue has not aged well. But no one can make that same claim about the band's new album. After an eight year hiatus, Huey Lewis and the News is back with a sumptuous album made up of covers of obscure Stax Records singles, taking the band back to its roots. On this rendition of the Staple Singers’ “Respect Yourself,” Lewis shines with unprecedented soul while back-up singers chime in with rich harmonies. A coy Rhodes electric piano drives the music forward. P.S. this download is only available for 24 hours, so get it while it's hot!
