Time For Parks Department Annual Winter Jam NYC

Friday, February 04, 2011

Just when you thought enough snow had fallen on the city this winter — the Parks Department is bringing even more of the white stuff to Prospect Park in Brooklyn this weekend.

ORDA, a company which manufactures snow for Lake Placid in the Adirondacks, will cover the park's Nethermead section with a fresh coat of powder for the Parks Department's annual Winter Jam NYC outdoor sports festival. The special events are meant to encourage New Yorkers to get out and enjoy the outdoors in the colder months.

Visitors can strap on a pair of cross-country skis or snowshoes, which the Parks Department provides for free. The more adventurous can try out their snowboarding skills at the event's Red Bull Butter Cup contest, which honors creativity and technical tricks on the board.

There will also be sledding and snow sculpting, as well as live music and special events hosted by members of the New York Rangers and the New York Knicks.
