Wal-Mart has no lack of opponents in New York City as the retailing giant looks to open stores here.
One group is Walmart Free NYC, “a coalition of workers, small business owners, community leaders, clergy and elected officials who are committed to increasing economic opportunities, preserving local businesses, and creating more jobs in communities across New York’s five boroughs.”
It’s been around for a while, protesting against the retailer.
Check out its Web site - www.walmartfreenyc.com - lots of information about Wal-Mart trying to come to NYC: studies and press clips and links to other groups.
The thing is, the Web site is fighting a battle from more than five years ago. The last study quoted is from 2005. The last press clip on the subject dates from November 2, 2005. The last entry about the history of the coalition is February 2005. The blog is more current with three posting this month and three for all of 2010.
As Wal-Mart spends millions to try to bust the borders of New York City, is the opposition keeping pace with the battle that Wal-Mart is waging?
A representative for the group said it will take a look at the Web site.
