Life with Dwight D. Eisenhower

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

David Eisenhower, grandson of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and his wife Julie Nixon Eisenhower, daughter of Richard Nixon, give an intimate account of the final years of Dwight D. Eisenhower: one of the giants of the twentieth century. Going Home To Glory: A Memoir of Life with Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961-1969 depicts Dwight Eisenhower as both a beloved and forbidding figure. As the tumultuous 1960s dawned with assassinations, riots, and the divisive war in Vietnam, the former president tried to chart the correct course for himself, his party, and the country.

Dear oh dear, what is WNYC coming to, earlier this morning we have as one sided and misinformed a representation of Wikileaks issue as Fox is likely to muster together and now we have the privelaged offspring of Nixon and Eisenhower, whose combined IQ wouldn't get them a joint account in Mensa, rewriting history for us without the slightest attempt at debate on the matter from Leonard...and you thought the Amy Sedaris slot was pitiful. Click.

So did Nixon's loss in CA lead him to be a cheat in the prez election? Was he resilient or was he just an egotistical racist lout?

Speaking of "willy nilly," what about Eisenhower's use of the CIA as his own private international police force? Your guests appear to live in a state of willful amnesia. End of rants.

Couple things about Pdt, and Gl. And Rep. Eisenhower .–

As a General he did not get along with French General DeGaule
And they both became Pdt of their respective countries.
Consequently, US and Fr. Did not have good relations then.

Eisenhower along with most Republicans seen post WWI countries seeking “Independence as Nationalism” and prone to fall into Communism / Marxism Regime.
Countries such as: Congo, Vietnam, Cuba, Egypte.

CIA under Eisenhower has Bride Gl. Sesseko to Overthrow Patrice Lumumba for seeking Financial assistyance from Tchekoslovakia. [Source: World Challenge, Radio Canada]

Eisenhower, has seen Ho Chi minh (Vietnam), Castro (Cuba), Patrice Lumumba (Congo), Nasser (Egypte) has Communism Marxism prone Regimes which must be brought down.

As for powerful vice presidencies, Mr. Eisenhower (like many other Republicans these days) seems to have forgotten about the Dick Cheney and his "unitary presidency," as well as vice president Nixon's role in planning the Bay of Pigs invasion.

Please address how under President Eisenhower the number of nuclear weapons went through the roof during peacetime. "More bang for the buck" (as Ike famously said) indeed, since the buck mainly went to his political donors in the arms industry.

I have to laugh whenever my fellow liberals bring up Ike's warning of the "military industrial complex," when he was the main salesman for that very complex.

And don't get me started on civil rights, the despicable Dulles brothers, etc., etc.
