Cathie Black to Kent Graduates: "Self-Reliance Makes it Happen"

Mayor Bloomberg's pick for Schools Chancellor, Hearst Magazines Chairman Cathie Black, has not spoken to reporters since her brief comments at City Hall on Tuesday. Though she did give a very quick interview to Cindy Adams at the NY Post about how the job offer came "out of left field."

For some insight into her philosophy about the role of education in shaping students' lives, we found this speech she gave to graduates of the Kent school in Connecticut this past June. Both of her children attended the private boarding school.
