Leonard Lopate speaks to Elvis Costello in The Greene Space Leonard Lopate speaks to Elvis Costello in The Greene Space (Daniel Eagan)

Elvis Costello performed live in The Greene Space Monday night with his six-piece band, the Sugarcanes, and Pete Thomas, and we're airing that performance. He spoke with Leonard about his musical influences, and played songs from his latest album, National Ransom, which includes rock, bluegrass, and country, and was produced by T Bone Burnett. The band includes: Jerry Douglas (dobro/lap steel), Stuart Duncan (violin), Mike Compton (mandolin), Pete Thomas (drums), Jim Lauderdale (guitar, vocals), Jeff Taylor (accordion), Dennis Crouch (double bass).

Costello has lent his support to the bigoted, racist, anti-Israel, anti-semitic Palestinian propaganda machine. All appearances and recordings of his should absolutely be boycotted!

@ cfredc from New York -

You're so right, it's trendy to hate right now;

>that general animosity and fear from the Tea Party,
>anti-immigrant and anti-illegal immigrant (both) hate in the USA,
>anti-Islamic sentiment in the USA and Europe,
>hate of "anti-colonialism" (risible, this one).

Hey, cfredc - can we think of more trendy hate?

Elvis Costello vigorously uses his celebrity to bolster the trendy "hate Isreal" movement in England.

Wow. What a line up. It could easily be Elvis backing up Jim Lauderdale. Guy's a legend. Amazing.

What a wonderful experience to be at The Greene Space Monday night for the Elvis Costello interview with Leonard Lopate. I'm a regular listener of his show and a huge fan of Elvis- this was truly a once in a lifetime event for me and the music was outstanding! Thank you WNYC for making this happen!
