"Chanting and Remembrance"
Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, Lighthouse Hill, 2-5 p.m. Monks of the Staten Island Buddhist Vihara honor those lost.

Jewish Group ceremony - with Shimon Peres
Park East Synagogue, 163 East 67th Street (west of Third Avenue) Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty and Ohel Children's Home and Family Services, together with Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, UJA-Federation of New York and Hatzolah Volunteer Ambulance Corps., with the support of Project Liberty, will sponsor a community-wide remembrance on the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. Shimon Peres, Foreign Minister of Israel and former Prime Minister will address the gathering. Also, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Council Speaker Gifford Miller will be there.

Staten Island Interfaith Service of Remembrance

Concert for Freedom

Music of Remembrance and Voices of Inspiration

Metropolitan Museum of Art, Medieval Sculpture Hall
The Met Museum offers a daylong series of free special programs collectively titled"Music of Remembrance," (listed below), in the Medieval Sculpture Hall; and "Voices of Inspiration," selected readings appropriate to the date, at 10am and 4pm in The Charles Engelhard Court.

12pm: Parthenia, A Consort of Viols
1pm: Stephanie Chase, violin: Bach violin sonatas

Community Sing - Mozart Requiem

Juilliard Theater, The Juilliard School
The Juilliard School offers two free events, beginning with a Mozart Requiem community sing-along in the Juilliard Theater at 1pm. Judith Clurman conducts the Juilliard Choral Union and the Juilliard Orchestra, with soloists Anja Strauss, Deborah Domanski, Michael Slattery, and Matthew Burns. The Choral Union, which embarks on its third season in September, is a symphonic chorus of about 100 singers from the metropolitan area who audition and enroll through the Juilliard Evening Division. No tickets required, though participants are urged to bring their own score.

“Spring Will Come Again”

A collaborative concert between the Juilliard School and Lincoln Center titled “Spring Will Come Again” features faculty members Steven Blier and Ted Altschuler, as well as Juilliard students and alumni. The songs of Bernstein, Bolcom, Corigliano, Lennon and McCartney, Musto, and Rorem will be featured, along with readings from Shakespeare, Patchen, Plath, Munro, O' Hara, and others. Free Tickets available on a first come, first serve basis at the Juilliard Box Office starting on Aug. 28.

Fauré Requiem

St. Francis of Assisi Church 135 West 31st St.
St. Francis Choir & Orchestra. Gwendolyn Toth, conductor. An 85-member chorus comprised of several choirs from around New York City, plus and orchestra featuring several members from the early music ensemble ARTEK will perform Fauré’s Requiem. Free Admission.

“An Evening of Memorial and Renewal”

92nd Street Y
The 92nd St. Y features an evening of readings, music and dance. Writers and poets will read selections from 110 Stories: New York Writes After September 11 (New York University Press), an anthology of stories, poems and essays being released the day of the program. In addition, baritone Sanford Sylvan sings Bach’s “Ich habe genug” and the period-instrument Sarasa Ensemble presents a Bach work for harpsichord and strings. Featuring Paul Auster, Vivian Gornick, John Guare, Grace Schulman, Art Spiegelman, Susan Wheeler and Sanford Sylvan. Tickets are available by calling the Y at 212-415-5500.
