At the end of February, WNYC political director Andrea Bernstein was invited to the tiny Himalayan nation of Bhutan, to train political reporters on how to cover their first national elections. Next month, the country transitions from monarchy to democracy. The invitation was a rare treat - the number of tourists entering Bhutan is strictly controlled - part of that nation's efforts to maintain its cultural heritage. And Bernstein got a chance to help shape the country's journalistic culture to one that values honesty, fairness, and transparency.
