Produced in the Los Angeles living room of host Jesse Thorn, a 25-year-old unemployed receptionist, The Sound of Young America is an edgy, irreverent comedy and arts interview show that bills itself as the “anti-Prairie Home Companion.”
Combining music, gonzo comedy sketches, and incisive interrogations with guests including Sarah Silverman, Louis CK, Henry Rollins, Terry Gilliam, Chuck D, the Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, Monty Python’s Terry Jones and Harvey Pekar, among many others, the no-frills, shoot-from-the-hip production has been championed as the grassroots antidote to the institutionalized public radio humor deficit.
Hosted by Jesse Thorn, "America's Radio Sweetheart," The Sound of Young America is public radio's funniest, most fascinating interview program, available free on the air, on the web or by podcast.
