Esphyr Slobodkina immigrated to the United States from Siberia in 1928, and went on to author and illustrate many children’s books, including the much-loved Caps for Sale. She died last week at the age of 93. We remember her with the help of a 1975 interview conducted by her great-niece, Jill Schildkraut.
