Gill starts by talking about Archimedes to illustrate the conception of the usefulness of mathematics in the war. Goes through many fields of mathematics to illustrate its usefulness in war. Three specific problems mathematics can solve: where am I? (cartography and geometry), how can I hit the enemy?, how can I get there? A mathematics and science school in Brooklyn.
