The French duo Arlt joins host David Garland in the WNYC Studio to perform and talk about their music. Eloise Decazes and Sing-Sing, who comprise Arlt, are based in Paris, and sing their tuneful, snappy, somewhat surrealist songs in French, but will provide explanations in English for these inexplicable songs.
Hugh Hopper
Sunday, June 14, 2009
Composer and bassist Hugh Hopper died last Sunday (June 7th) at age 64. Hopper was part of the musically progressive Canterbury scene in England in the 1960s, and came to prominence as a member of the group Soft Machine beginning with their second album in 1969. Hopper's angular melodies, obsessive ostinatos, and signature fuzz-bass sound were distinctive and influential. Host David Garland offers some of Hopper's work with Soft Machine, music from the solo albums "1984" and "Hopper Tunity Box," and more.
