Climb into the cello. Make yourself comfortable. Feel the vibrations engulf you as the instrument is played. Your entire world resonates.
Composer/cellist Julia Kent creates evocative environments of sound with her cello, running it through digital delays and a laptop to magnify and multiply the music. Her latest album is called "Character," and explores the possibilities of mood and narrative in instrumental pieces. Julia Kent has been on Spinning On Air before, as a member of Antony and the Johnsons, and this time she brings her cello and her electronic accessories to the WNYC Studio to perform her layered solo music, and to talk about it with David Garland.

i happened to listen to this show last night as i drove the car from the city towards north stamford. this show and julia music came like a blessing - just what i needed to at that moment - i was very sad and feeling very lonely and my mind was so far far away. but the music and the voice of the host helped soothe the mind and bring some peace
thanks so much for such lovely music
Clarke, I don't have individual titles, but all pieces Julia performed in the studio also appear on her new album "Character," which is available through her website (link above), from amazon.com, iTunes, and elsewhere.
I would love to get a list of the pieces Julia played tonight... very cinematic indeed!! AWESOME music!
