During August The Museum of Modern Art presents contemporary French songwriters in the Sculpture Garden each Thursday evening. Drawing on the French chanson tradition, these artists are also finding ways to be innovative and personal. Host David Garland presents music by each of the participants: Holden, Pascal Parisot and Fredda, Arnaud Fleurent-Didier, and Marianne Dissard. Garland also features richly imaginative recordings from the 1970s by the duo of Brigitte Fontaine and Areski Belkacem, one of France's most creative songwriting collaborations.

blasco? is that who you mean?
While you're playing all these great French songwriters, why not play a significant artist who moved from France to New York, and played all over the city from 1995 to 2000. He later played as a sideman for Interpol, April March and others. His somewhat known CD titled film featured mostly songs that he wrote in English circa 1996. Later he thought they might have a better following in his native France, and so re-recorded the words in French and re-titled it "French Film". Perhaps he was not included in the MOMA series because he used to work there.
