Sunday, October 26, 2008

The theremin is an early 20th Century electronic instrument that has seen a renaissance of interest in its unique sound and performance technique. Host David Garland presents the theremin's elegant and eerie sound played by first generation performers Clara Rockmore, Samuel J. Hoffman, and Paul Tanner, as well as current players such as Lydia Kavina, Pamelia Kurstin, Rob Schwimmer, and Dorit Chrysler. Musical genres include pop, easy listening, classical, jazz, and experimental, and of course film scores, such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, Earth vs The Spider, The Thing From Another World, My Favorite Martian, and Ed Wood. Clara Rockmore plays "The Swan"
Rob Schwimmer's "Waltz for Clara"
