Osso is a talented new string quartet of young players, several of whom have played in composer Sufjan Stevens’ bands. Sufjan is well known for his songs these days, but in 2001 he made an album of instrumental pieces about the animals of the Chinese Zodiac, “Enjoy Your Rabbit.” That album featured a lot of electronic keyboards, drum machines, and computers, but now those same pieces, with titles such as “Year of the Dog” and “Year of the Snake,” have been arranged for string quartet, and sound like they were always meant to be heard this way. Osso joins host David Garland in the WNYC Studio to talk about their project, and to perform these dramatic, edgy, colorful pieces on the radio for the first time.

the osso program was sensational. I loved the string quartet verions of stevens's mechanical work, and the repartee was delightful. But the music--just transporting.
Reminded me of someone i heard on the radio 30 years ago whose work i have never been able to locate, and i can only remember his name vaguely: john ruth or root--a long piece of his was played late one night, i think by nyc, not sure.
Anyway to get a copy of what Osso played on the show?
