The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band
Sunday, November 06, 2005
Performing their dramatic, mysterious, politically-charged songs, the seven members of The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band (all of whom sing) bring their violins, cello, double bass, drums, and electric and acoustic guitars all the way from Montreal to the WNYC studio for Spinning On Air. Host David Garland welcomes them and discusses with them their songs about citizens, missiles, electric chairs, beauty, and strength.

It's been a number of years since this show aired. I was lucky enough to hear the program at the time, and to download the show as well. Not to mention to catch them at South Paw on that same visit to NY. But this recording of "There is a river in the valley..." is simply my favorite version.
It is refreshing to see that a band with such a mysterious persona is so down to earth, humble, and warm. Adding a human voice to the members, made me appreciate the band more.
