Subtle and/or Drastic

« previous episode | next episode »

Friday, January 14, 2005

Once again host David Garland presents musicians who, through subtle and/or drastic measures, stretch and expand the possibilities of song. This time all artists are new to the show. Glasgow-based Richard Youngs' 20-minute-long "Red Cloud Singular" is a meditative abstraction, The Microphones' songs leap through varying textures, Akron/Family combine plainess and grandeur, Khaela Maricich twists her songs gently, and Deerhoof bite their songs into chunks. Also heard are Doug Cullen, Spokane, Six Organs of Admittance, and several others.
