The Robert Wyatt Interview

« previous episode | next episode »

Friday, March 19, 2004

Back in 1968 David Garland asked his big brother to take him to a Jimi Hendrix concert. Opening for Hendrix was the British group Soft Machine, and after hearing that band's experimental approach to song, David's never been the sameĀ—a new world of music was suddenly possible.
Robert Wyatt was the drummer/singer in Soft Machine. Wyatt continues to this day to be a distinctive, innovative, influential, communicative songwriter, and on this Spinning On Air David finally gets to talk with his musical hero. They discuss Wyatt's music and career, and introduce his new CD of songs, "Cuckooland."
