Visiting New York from Seattle, singer/songwriter Aiko Shimada performs in the WNYC Studio with violist Eyvind Kang. Songs in Japanese and English evoke masks, moons, and autumn, with the sounds of Aiko's gentle, clear voice and guitar, and Eyvind's whispering viola.
The musicians also talk about their work with host David Garland. During the second hour, get to know the music of British composer and provocateur Matthew Herbert who manipulates the sounds of consumerism into rhythmic music, and also leads a big band that has made a dazzling new, iconoclastic cd. All that, plus the engrossing and confounding new release from the group Matmos: "The Civil War."
