Composer Nobukazu Takemura has created a widely varied body of work. His experiences with everything from dance music, to electronic free-improvisation, to the creation of the sounds for Sony's AIBO robot dog, have given him an unusual vantage point on musical possibilities. Motivated by curiosity and discovery he explores those possibilities from many angles, and his newest release is the extraordinary "Songbook." Featuring the austere singing of vocalist Aki Tsuyuko, Takemura's songs encompass and transform various styles and concepts, creating a song cycle full of surprises and delights. Host David Garland offers many selections from "Songbook," and also highlights from some of Takemura's other, many recordings.
