In the late 1960s composer, arranger, producer, and Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson invented a sound for his music which has been imitated and expanded upon by a growing collection of musicians since the 1990s. We hear some of the originals, and the groups they've inspired, such as The High Lamas and Eletronico. This isn't surf music. It's carefully orchestrated pop mini-symphonies, and the sound will also be traced into the work of Burt Bacharach and Ennio Morricone. Also featured are some of the beautiful and personal songs of Japan-born, Seattle-based singer/songwriter Aiko Shimada.
