The Election Effect ... In Pop Music

As America voted for change Tuesday, the old-time metal-rockers AC/DC were hanging on to the top spot on the Billboard albums chart for a second week. Right on their heels were albums by Pink and John Legend. On today's show: what this week's top-selling albums do - and don't - say about the national mood. Also: Canadian singer and songwriter Kathleen Edwards is performing a special acoustic show with John Doe of the legendary punk outfit X. The pair join us to talk about this unusual collaboration.

Inside The Presidential iPod

Earlier this year, when Barack Obama revealed the contents of his iPod to Rolling Stone magazine, many music fans were fairly impressed by the diversity of his playlists: Yo-Yo Ma, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z and John Coltrane were among the cited artists. Now, after a grueling campaign when music was often a touchstone of rallies, some are wondering what's next on the music front. Joining us today with some insight is Brian Hiatt, associate editor of Rolling Stone magazine.

Hockey and Harmonies

As a member of the seminal 1980s punk band X, John Doe helped introduce male-female vocal harmonies to the punk rock. Later, he moved on to solo albums and an acting career. Canadian singer and songwriter Kathleen Edwards has written music about her favorite sport -- hockey -- and broken love. Doe and Edwards join us in light of their concert together.

John Doe and Kathleen Edwards perform tonight at Zankel Hall, part of Carnegie Hall. Doors open at 8:30 p.m.
