Garth Knox made his name as the violist in the celebrated Arditti String Quartet. Increasingly he's been a pioneer of the viola d'amore, a baroque viola precursor, exploring its possibilities in modern music and period appropriate pieces. He joins us to share his debut album on the ECM label, featuring music from 1600 to the present day.

Sorry to sound rude...
...now we now why this instrument is not played much anymore. Yikes! Brings back the shivers I got sitting next to the violin section in elementary school!

Wow, amazing how different people's reactions can be. To me, that guttural sound just pulls at my heartstrings. The Irish bagpipe tune he played last was absolutely spellbinding. I'm going to have to see him live at Le Poisson Rouge this Sunday.
