i've been a calexico fan for a long time, and am an AZ native. I miss their improv-heavy aesthetic. I realize that they're trying to reach a wider audience, and that they put a lot of that sort of stuff on tour-only releases, but I always felt that that was them at their best. I remember a show at the Showbox in Seattle in maybe 2003, and they opened with a long, unreleased improvisation that was unbelievable. i think it hits the American Southwest aesthetic more directly, too. In sum, why all the pop songs??? You guys are adventurous musicians!
