Renée Fleming

Monday, September 22, 2008

Soprano Renée Fleming remains one of opera's best-known stars, as evidenced by her headlining appearance at the Metropolitan Opera's opening night gala, and her latest CD, Strauss' "Four Last Songs," to be released this week. But she’s increasingly expanding her profile beyond opera – launching a signature perfume and performing at the Olympics last month. She joins us to talk about her busy fall and her love of Strauss.

that one quick clip of renee that you played was so beautiful it made my eyes tear up!

i think that in a world so desensitized opera is a needed style of music to help make us feel again. as a 25 year old woman i definitely agreed with renee's comment about being "cultured" not being a huge part of our upbringing anymore.

i am happy that my mom took me to see carmen when i was 12. it was something that instilled in me a love of opera that never went away.

La Triviata was the first opera that i saw about 2 years ago and now my friend and i try to go at least twice a year. i completely agree that it is harder for the younger generation to get into something like the opera. i had a wonderful teacher in high school that made music a cornerstone in my humanities class and i think it had a huge impact on how i love art and music now.
