Soundcheck's Songwriting Contest

Monday, September 08, 2008

We want your song! Jesse Harris, the singer-songwriter who won a Grammy for writing Norah Jones' hit "I Don’t Know Why," joins us to launch Soundcheck’s first songwriting contest. The results will be announced on Oct. 10th, when Harris returns to reveal his pick -- and the Brooklyn-based band One Ring Zero plays the winning song live.

I looked on the Soundcheck site for instructions on how to enter the songwriting contest, but I could not find a direct link. How do I enter?

Please give a shout-out to song-poems! There are some great collections available of these "pay to have your words set to music by a professional songwriter" songs, at their best combining pathetic but incredibly heartfelt lyrics with soulless tin-pan alley progressions and studio musician mail-in performances. My favorites are the obtuse poems sent in by lunatic asylum residents.
