Ready, Set ... Go Write a Song!

Join Soundcheck for the launch of our first-ever songwriting contest. Find out how your lyrics could be picked by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Jesse Harris and set to music by the Brooklyn-based group One Ring Zero. And later, a double-feature of rising stars in our studio. Tune in for live performances from singer-songwriter Sonya Kitchell and jazz pianist Aaron Parks.

Soundcheck's Songwriting Contest

We want your song! Jesse Harris, the singer-songwriter who won a Grammy for writing Norah Jones' hit "I Don’t Know Why," joins us to launch Soundcheck’s first songwriting contest. The results will be announced on Oct. 10th, when Harris returns to reveal his pick -- and the Brooklyn-based band One Ring Zero plays the winning song live.

Sonya Kitchell

Sultry singer-songwriter Sonya Kitchell started off as a teenage prodigy with a debut album on Starbucks’ record label and lots of media buzz. With her follow-up release, "The Storm," the 19 year old is stretching out vocally and tackling serious issues including war, loss, and solitude. She joins us to perform live.

Aaron Parks

When he was 15, Aaron Parks attended the University of Washington with a triple-major in math, computer science and music. At 19, he was a pianist playing with trumpeter Terence Blanchard. Now at the tender age of 24, Parks is releasing his debut for a blue-chip jazz label, Blue Note. He joins us to talk about "Invisible Cinema" and to play live.
