The New Sound of Ad Jingles

The Eagles are the sound of Wal-Mart and Paul McCartney's music is selling Starbucks. Today, how the ad jingle has moved beyond "plop, plop, fizz, fizz." Also: Folk heiress Lucy Wainwright Roche performs in our studio. This is an encore edition of Soundcheck.

I'm With the Brand

The Umbrella power... to sell lipstick. Rihanna’s hit song is featured in Cover Girl commercials, and she is just one in a sea of superstars who are the voice and the face of the new jingles on TV, from Dylan and Cadillac to The Eagles and Wal-Mart. Josh Rabinowitz, Billboard columnist and music executive at Grey Group advertising and David McGinnis, Head of licensing for Mute Song, discuss the new sound of the ad jingle.

Lucy Wainwright Roche

It was probably Lucy Wainwright Roche’s destiny to be a songwriter. Both her parents and half siblings are from famous musical families. But instead, Lucy became...an elementary school teacher. At first. Now, after singing backing vocals on tour with her brother Rufus, she has released her solo EP. She joins us for an in-studio performance.

Lucy Wainwright Roche performs at Living Room on Jul. 22 at 8pm.
