"The Soloist" is a new book by Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez that tells the story of Nathaniel Ayers, a musical prodigy who developed schizophrenia during his second year at Juilliard. Ayers becomes homeless on the streets of downtown L.A., playing the violin and the cello. Lopez joins us to talk about his book, which has been adapted into an upcoming Hollywood movie starring Jamie Foxx.

    Please ask Steve Lopez about the ironic contrast of his story and the column by Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten which won the Pulitzer Prize. It's essentially the opposite story...

    I don't mean to be rude, this story is extremely compelling and Mr. Lopez is a great interview, but didn't we just hear this yesterday? Am I crazy? Did anyone else hear him on WNYC yesterday?
