DJ-ing The Weather
For years the Weather Channel has developed a cult following for the music played during its "Local on the 8s." The channel's first CD release "The Weather Channel Presents Smooth Jazz" stormed the music charts when it was released last fall, hitting number one on Billboard's Jazz compilation chart. We talk with Weather Channel music programmer Brian Picard and ambient/jazz artist Ryan Farish about the challenges of DJing the weather and why so many viewers care about the music that accompanies their forecast.

Weather Channel? Are we really considering Muzak as a legitimate musical presence? I'm terrified by the thought that people are buying this album.
weatherchannel.com should play music too and have a genre selector for those of us who don't care for smooth jazz!
Quicker than Sominex, cheaper than Xanax!
I knew it was just a matter of time. The tunes make the weather seem better.
I was in the car at 2:00PM when this segment came on. I thought it was really funny. I coold not wait to get back to my office to tell all of the Innova Jazz fans at http://groups.google.com/group/innovafanclub
to check out this segment when we get the podcast. We will get a podcast, won't we?
So, I was trying to figure out a cool quippy comment. Nothing comes to mind.
I guess I will just go back to Innova Jazz at Live365.
I hope you are having good weather.
When you wake up in the morning to the sound of rain, you want to turn on the weather channel to see the outlook, and you are more than likely to be in your bed all nice and cozy. So when the weather chaneel comes on and you hear the smooth uplifting and relaxing tunes, it makes you feel good. Period.
Hey Edgar Medellin-
Come on Edgar, rain in San Juan Capistrano?

NJ weather: sunny and San Diego warm (not!)
Hey Rich-
It's been raining here in San Juan all week buddy, and we are blessed for it and all the great weather Southern California gets year round compared to other parts of the country. May I recommend you buy my good friend Ryan Farish's cd, listen to the music, and enjoy life while you have it my brotha.
Hey Edgar-
I don't know if you will even see this, because you would need to come back to the site. We have no notification of responses and we have no real forum.
If you are a member of WNYC, please email to John or to listener services about how here we are, you in CA, me in NJ, and a forum or response utility would make it so much better.
I was a member of KUSC, Los Angeles, listening on the computer for some time after 9/11, when WNYC-FM went to talk radio during the day. I am back at WNYC because of wnyc2.
I am going to have to write myself a sticky to come back and see if you even saw this post.
