Led Zeppelin are the greatest band in rock's long history...all you have to do is listen to their debut self titled album to realise this band was like no other....every album has its own feeling and there will never be another band like them....
People can't expect them to be as good as they were at the albert hall in 1970, L.A forum in 1972 or earl's court in 75 (especially cos John Bonham is long Gone)
but rest assured even "out of there prime"
they will show the world why they are who they are.....one more time...
wish i could be there...
hoping it is filmed for future dvd...
cheers from Australia
(my uncle saw them here in 1972 and still talks about that night like it was yesterday)
'It was an April morning
When they told us we should go
As I turn to you
You smiled at me
How could we say no?
With all the fun to have
To live the dreams we always had
Woah the songs to sing
When we at last return again
Oh to ride the wind
To tread the air above the din
Oh to laugh aloud
Dancing as we fought the crowd'
I was a bit of a fan when they first arrived. Some of Zeppelin's stuff may be worth listening today but there are far too many others which are a bit too adolescent. And "Stairway to Heaven" is on my list as one of the worst songs in rock-and-roll history
zep is the best rock band of all time.
from acoustic folk to blazing electric blues....always raw and exciting. from dazed and confused to achilles last stand.....pure rock.
the reunion should be very good considering the substantial amount of rehearsal that has occurred.
naturally without john bonham on kit it is not really 100% zeppelin.
also the middle section of Carouselambra is quite good even if page was weak from drugs at the time.
Being a product of the 60's, I would have loved to have been apart of the concert this evening. The music was great 37 years ago, and is still great today according to my nieces and nephews who are in their 20's. Still a favorite of mine, along with Cream.
Led Zeppellin are just desperate to be back in the spotlight again.
I had much more respect for them and their legacy before they sold 'Rock n Roll' to Cadillac a few years back. It's a shame.
I think what makes LZ unique, is that like the Grateful Dead, they all grew up being influenced by pre-music industry music ... their roots are authentic in a way that would be hard to find today.
If not for Led Zeppelin, there would be no Spinal Tap.
Zeppelin must be loved for that reason alone.
Definitely music for under-achievers. Sheer noise and grime, lyrics that mean nothing, a singer without a voice, a couple of catchy musical phrases and lotsa hype.
I grew up in Yonkers with a brother who was and still is a hardcore Zeppelin fan. His room was above mine and every night during the summer I not only endured his inept drumming but experienced the entire Zeppelin catalog at high volume. Through the ceiling I managed to learn all the words to every song. I hated all of it and at the time would have prefered to listen to a car accident. But now, as I've aged, I have to say I've grown to love the band and their music and no longer change the station when Over the Hills and Far Away comes on...Stairway however, needs to die.
2 things:
Is it just me, or does anyone think that Led Zeppellin was influenced by Rogers & hammerstein. I mean, listen to "Bali Hai. " Doesn't that sound just like the beginning of "The Immigrant Song?"
I just acquired Physical Graffiti. It sounds a lot like a progressive blues band for a big chunk of it.
best music ever to accompany an extended Dungeons & Dragons campaign circa 6th grade.
HOLD UP!
just for the record the guitar playing on the infamous "the song remains the same" film is some of the best that page EVER did.
this is indisputable among me and other musos....
So typical of the grandiose, pompous nature of Sound Check and it's staff. You all disgust me and your '5 reasons to hate Zep' are an embarrassment to Rock fans everywhere. Zep were one of the most exciting live bands ever. They could play one of their songs with a completely different arrangement in the exact same amount of time. Go listen to "Bang on a Can" you elitists.
What about the plagirism issue? They stole credit for dozens of riffs and songs from old blues artists.
Although like beauty, music is in the ear of the beholder, bunny rabbit, to say that “Stairway to Heaven” is one of the worst songs in rock and roll history makes you def.
As a teenager, I loved the band for little over a year, and after that could never regain that brief fiery passion for them.
I still hold Physical Graffittie and the first album as the best of the catalog---all the others are a mixed bag from great to regretable.
Firts saw them at the Fillmore East with Woody Herman (go figure), and was totally blown away, especially by Page's guitar work, which when he was on was great. Probaly the third best guitarist behind Hendrix and Clapton, if only because there were times when Page went off into some unlistenable jams. (There's a live album done in Australia that is painful to listen to.) But he was willing to take the risks....
I finally watched "Freaks & Geeks" via DVD, and
after having avoided Zep because it scared the
heck out of me in jr. high, this TV paeon to the band re-introduced me to them, now that I'm old
enough to not be terrified.
I saw Led Zeppelin in 1969. They opened for The Who. Nice surprise, since we had never heard of them.
i grew up with Led Zeppelin, dad played in the house, but if you really think about it at the time almost everyone was sounding the same then came along Led Zeppelin and everyone went crazy a new sound and blew peoples minds...after them many other bands re-shaped rock...i would not consider them the best band but in the top 20's
there is no way to recreate every dimension of their impact when they first played live or when they released their first record. having lived through it, i can honestly say that there has never since been such a powerful force to enter the music scene. i hope they dont have a weak show, but their legacy is already confirmed and undisputed as musicians, songwriters, and creators of chaos and mystique. No matter what the show quality will be tonight, there have never been 4 people on one stage at one time who kicked nearly as much assss as Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin is simply the best band ever. They passed up greats such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and played some of the biggest single-act concerts of all time. The reason behind their success? The band can really PLAY!! Many musicians just shred up 69 trillion notes in 32.7 seconds. I can't play well and I can do that. If you want to be a good band, you have to have something that many wannabe musicians don't have but Led Zeppelin has excess of... TALENT!!!
Oh and Stairway to Heaven... Best Song of all time. Think about it. It killed rock and roll. It was such a good song that it figuratively rebelled against the powers of rock and crushed it. No song has ever done that. People hate it because it has been worn out and overplayed. It's not that they hate it. It's just that they're sick of hearing it.
