Chicha Libre
Wednesday, November 14, 2007
The band Chicha Libre plays a mixture of Latin rhythms, surf music and psychedelic pop inspired by Peruvian music from the Amazon. This Brooklyn-based group revives forgotten Chicha classics and puts their own cross-cultural spin on them as we hear in a live performance.

Chica Libre's MySpace page link doesn't work! I want to hear the Beethoven song again.
Help!
SOUNDCHECK SAYS: Thanks! The link is fixed.
I love these guys! Last time I saw them play the percussionist wasn't wearing a cowboy hat. Other than that disappointment they were fantastic!
For one, the band's name is Chicha Libre, not Chica. For two, I can't find an archive of their set on the show. Am I missing it somehow?
SOUNDCHECK SAYS: Dang typos! On behalf of "free girls" everywhere, thanks for your eagle eye!
Will there be an audio archive of this segment of the show available on the WYNC website soon?
I also would like to here the audio archive of Chica Libre.
SOUNDCHECK SAYS: The audio stream has been posted -- sorry for the delay!
Greetings J.S. and excellent SC crew. I'm wearing my most civil briefs, therefore I'm set to make a brief, civil comment. As percussionist with Chicha Libre I apoligize to the message writer that I (or Timothy, the other Chicha percussionist) wore not a cowboy hat at our gig. We will correct that for the remaining Mondays eve'g sets at Barbes in Brooklyn.
