Thousands of companies and individuals offer podcasts on every conceivable subject. Today, we look at some of the best and worst of the medium, from those offering university lectures and stocktips to indie rock and more. We'll get a state of the podcast business and hear from a skeptic who believes it may just be a fad.

Sound Off

Throughout May, Soundcheck presents “Sound Off” a Friday series on the many aspects of noise in music and our lives. The series -- which coincides with “Better Hearing and Speech Month” -- looks at issues like New York’s noisiest neighborhoods, the latest research on iPods and hearing loss, and what happens when noise becomes a musical ingredient.
